Symposia/Special Sessions

Symposia or Special Sessions are small specialized events to be held during the congress as a set of oral and poster presentations dedicated to a particular theme or consisting solely of the works of a particular international research project.
Symposia and Special Sessions are typically opened with an oral presentation by the Special Session/Symposium’s chair, which establishes the context for the other presentations.

Both complete papers and extended abstracts can be submitted. All accepted extended abstracts will be published on CD-ROM without an ISBN, accepted papers will be published on CD-ROM support and in a special section of the congress proceedings book, under an ISBN reference.
The proceedings are submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus. All papers and extended abstracts presented at the congress venue will also be made available at the SCITEPRESS DIGITAL LIBRARY. SCITEPRESS is member of CrossRef.

Special Session on Effect of the Environment on the Sport Performance - EESP 2013

Scope

The effect of weather and environmental conditions on sports has been extensively studied over the last few years. Based upon the studies of Lobozewicz and of Kay and Vamplew, Pezzoli and Cristofori have studied the impact of some specific environmental parameters over different sports using a particular impact index divided into five classes. This analysis clearly shows that most of the outdoor sport activities, and in particular endurance sports, are strongly influenced by the variation of meteorological parameters. In effect the evaluation of bio-climatological conditions and of thermal comfort in endurance sports, particularly in road cycling, has a fundamental importance not only for a proper planning of the training program and the nutritional plan, but also for a better evaluation of the race strategy [8]. Despite these observations, the influence of meteorological and environmental conditions is often disregarded in the outdoor sport performance assessment.
Some new researches about the Team Sport, the cycling, the water sport show us as in the sports performance analysis we need to work, as well as in the well-known areas of Biomechanics and "Performance Analysis" ("Motion Analysis", "Match Analysis" and "Notational Analysis"), also in the "Environmental Analysis"

Scope

Golf is virtually at the point now where very few (if any) major developments are possible in the design and manufacture of the player’s equipment. On the other side of the equation, coaches and players have sought technologies that allow them to understand and monitor the way the club and ball interact as well as how the body segments move and interact to do work on the golf club. There have been three major technological improvements that have occurred in this field of endeavor over the last 10 years including real time 3D analysis and biofeedback, systems to measure the movement of the club head during impact and the motion of the golf ball, and systems designed to provide analysis and real-time feedback at the interaction of the player and the ground.
It is the integration of such technologies that will allow coaches to better understand how players deliver the club to the ball and how interventions (e.g., biofeedback training), can be used to bring about movement pattern change.

The first IcSPORTS congress on Sports and Technology, includes a special session on 'Technology in Surfing' that is the first of a kind: How is technology involved in surfing in a free surf setting, as well as professional performance? And how can surfers, coaches, judges, shapers and engineers use this technology in sports to optimize performance, training, assessment, boards quality and evolution, wetsuits, waves forecast or coastal and waves protection? With this symposium, we hope to bring together researchers from all over the world to discuss the State of The Art of Sports and Technology in Surfing.'

Scope

In the last decade there was a wealth of technological developments that imposed remarkable changes in performance analysis research and practice. The advent of such technologies radically challenged the practices of scientists and practitioners involved in professional soccer. Current challenges on this topic include i) how to maximize the technological potential into meaningful and effective information and, ii) how can new technologies enhance the way we analyze and interpret data.
This Special Session will join both researchers and practitioners from professional soccer showing how technology is being integrated and is changing the current practices in performance analysis field.
